Can you imagine how nostalgic it’d be to revisit your old elementary school and see the places you used to learn and play as a kid? That’s exactly what’s happening for Ebony Wimbish! She recently signed up to provide Junior Achievement (JA) programming to students at Joseph Zito Elementary School, which she used to attend.
But this isn’t Ebony’s first time volunteering for JA. She found out about JA through a corporate volunteer program back in 2021 and had a great time teaching kids about financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship.
“JA adds excitement and students are able to get a new perspective and learn about new subjects, like money management and jobs,” she said.
One of her favorite parts about volunteering for JA was introducing students to new ways of thinking. She explained that JA teaches students about work and finances in ways they may not have learned at school or at home.
“JA opens up the minds of students to what other career opportunities there are.”
She enjoyed the experience so much that she recently signed up to volunteer for us again. This time, she’s excited to be revisiting her old elementary school! It will be a unique full circle moment teaching at the place she used to learn.
Volunteering for JA is just one of many ways that Ebony prepares kids for success. She also started a children’s book club to encourage kids to read and she’s working towards becoming a teacher.
“Being a part of this program has put a battery in my back to complete my Early Childhood Education degree.”
We are so grateful that Ebony is part of the JA family — her passion for helping kids is truly inspiring to see. We are always happy to have her as a volunteer and we’ll be cheering her on as she pursues her Early Childhood Education degree!
